When we can't do anything else, as we and people we care about, go through difficult times, we can pray!! When we can't do anything else, and we really want to do something to "fix" a
situation, God gives us the gift, allows us, to pray. And that makes all the difference--between how Christians go through trials and how the world faces hard times.

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance, perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.
James 1:2-5

That is great advice, sometimes that is all we have as comfort.

Thanks for visiting, reading, and commenting. Your comment that prayer can be a comfort reminds me of another passage I thought of the other day as I wondered about the purpose of some of the trials we go through:

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4

That is, once we learn that we can pray when it seems we cannot do anything else, we can comfort others in the situation by praying with them and sharing that gift of God with them.

So true. It's because of Christ's finished work on the cross that we can push through trials. This is a great verse, too--reminds me of a book our family just read by John Piper called The Dangerous Duty of Delight. It's very thought-provoking!
